“Yet across the gulf of space, minds that are to our minds as ours are to those of the beasts that perish, intellects vast and cool and unsympathetic, regarded this earth with envious eyes, and slowly and surely drew their plans against us” -HG Wells, War of the Worlds.
So begins the story. The Gods of the Moon over the Earth grew envious and, stretching their power to its extent, pulled the moon desturbingly close to the earth. The result was cataclysmic. Gravity pulled the surface of the moon down to earth. Clouds of meteors impacted the planet, transforming what was once a green, prosperous land into a barren wasteland. And whats worse, horrifying monsters, barely recognizable as dragons fell with them, bearing malice and a desire for conquest in the name of their terrible gods.
The Surface was destroyed. The survivors of the cataclysm, in a panic, made war upon those who dwelt beneith the earth. The first they encountered were the Dwarves.
The Dwarves reinstated their ancient Gearwrights guild and began a project to break the siege and once again make the surface world safe for the refugees of the disaster. Mechanical Walkers, some the size of small cities, were constructed, harnessing the power of Steam to combat the lunar monsters.
Others followed in the footsteps of the dwarves. The surviving elves and humans have organized into nations of their own, controlled and protected from the backs of walking mechanized wonders.
Now survival is paramount. There are more survivors than there are resources and while the Lunar rain has slowed, it shows no sign of stopping.
